Uh, pardon me, but did you just use the word 'peeps'? I would like to request that that 'word' is never used here again. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
spaceham
P.S. Oooh! I big picture of Bush with the word 'Dick' on the bottom! How terribly clever!

Ya, so anyway... About the post. Why don't you have them do a few lines from your script? Or simply ask them questions, like what they think their strengths and weaknesses are, or ask them critical questions that pertain to the part. Or if worst comes to worst, you could just judge by physical appearance and first impressions as to who would best compliment your cast.

Steve, i know I'm too late but...
But I've been auditioning actors for a video file all last week. I think its best to not ask any tough questions like strenghts and weaknessess, you are trying to make them feel relaxed afterall.
Its a good idea to have them ident to the camera first. Have a general chat. Ask them about past work (theatre/film) Make sure they've read the piece first and then let them off. Video everything. Then let them read it again but give them a specific direction. Don't be too distant, sit near them. Always say something positive first. Don't give them the action.
Hope this will help in future.

phew... casting went well - ended up casting two of my mates and a talented actress
the shoot went well, luckily just studio based. a lot of hard work - sweat and tears, the pre produciton paid off and the whole should look sh?t -hot, even though its just a cr?ppy comedy sketch. Just have to wait and see how it edits together
most important thing is we had a laugh, and as artist we're ready to advance
